Course Overview

The AIM of this web site is to provide SHORT VIDEO EXPLANATIONS of each concept for students to watch (including on their mobile phone).

Another great site BASED on a TEXT BOOK APPROACH is Blackburn High School.

Specialist Mathematics Units 3&4 is a Year 12 advanced Maths course, which is part of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

The course consists of the following areas of study:

Functions, relations and graphs
Algebra
Calculus
Vectors,
Kinematics & Dynamics

Each area of study is broken down into particular skills which can be accessed from the left hyperlinks.

Students are expected to be able to apply techniques, routines and processes, involving rational, real and complex arithmetic, algebraic manipulation, diagrams and geometric constructions, solving equations, graph sketching, differentiation and integration related to the above areas of study; both with and without the use of a graphics calculator.

Note: Mathematical Methods Units 3&4 is a CO/PRE - requisite

RECOMMENDATION: Specialist Maths is a difficult course, many schools attempt to reduce the workload in Y12 by introducing topics for Specialist in Year 11. My anecdotal evidence from student feedback is that Y12 Specialist Maths takes 2 to 3 times more work than Y12 Further Maths. Many students wished they had enrolled in Y12 Further Maths rather than Y12 Specialist Maths. So carefully consider what is best for you.

Now our first task is to prove the existence of GOD
